We have long supported the creation of daycare centers. Back in 2022, our councilor Barbora Musilová urged the leadership of Prague 8 to take advantage of available subsidies and create new spots for children.
When the town hall later entrusted the project management to SIPTRADE—a company linked to Alexandra Semancová—we started asking questions: How was this firm selected? What was their track record? How much were they paid, and who supervised their work?
The town hall ignored our questions. Later, however, Semancová became entangled in a nationwide scandal involving a conflict of interest at the ministry responsible for distributing the subsidies. As a result, European funding for several projects, including those in Prague 8, was put at risk.
Why We Called the Extraordinary Meeting
Our goal was never to shut down functioning daycares. We wanted to find out how the consultant was chosen, whether Prague 8 faces any financial damage, and who is accountable for the whole process.
Radomír Nepil now claims that 8žije failed to support the daycare centers. But he is mixing up two completely different things. We can be happy that 77 children have a place to go, while still refusing to ignore doubts about subsidies and public funds.
Supporting daycare centers cannot mean blindly rubber-stamping every coalition resolution and stopping asking questions.
How 8žije Will Do It Better
We will keep the running daycares open and push for the creation of new ones. However, we will manage the projects transparently from day one:
- We will select consultants based on clear criteria and proven experience.
- We will publish the exact cost of each project and who is responsible for it.
- We will continuously monitor conflicts of interest and subsidy risks.
- We will flag problems early and solve them openly.
Our goal isn't just running daycare centers. We want a town hall that parents and taxpayers can truly trust.
